One of the most important jobs of the McAlpine PTO is to raise money for our school.  So many of the wonderful opportunities that are provided to students at McAlpine Elementary are due to the work that our PTO does, and are not funded by CMS, taxes or other government funds.   The money raised by the PTO benefits ALL students at our school.

Here are a few of the things that the McAlpine PTO fundraising programs have provided for our school in the past few years:

- New technology such as iPads, SmartBoards and Document Cameras

- Books and technology platforms for our Media Center

- Start-up funds for all teachers at the beginning of the year to purchase classrooms needs

- Field Trips for all classes, including the Children’s Theatre, local farms, museums, planetariums and many other cultural experiences

- School Improvements such as resurfacing the stage floor, painting the bus lot, playground and sports equipment for recess, water-filling stations, and a new sound system for the gym.

- Plants, mulch and other landscaping improvements to beautify the McAlpine campus

- Funds to support school clubs such as Math, Drama, Chorus and Safety Patrol

- Professional development courses, conferences and materials for faculty and staff

- And so much more!!

There are numerous SIMPLE opportunities for you to contribute to PTO Fundraising goals:

The “ECC” is our biggest and most important fundraiser.  Rather than ask your child to sell products door-to-door and only receive a portion of the proceeds from their hard work, we simply ask families to make a financial donation to the McAlpine PTO each Fall.  This allows 100% of the money raised to stay at McAlpine to fund classroom and school-wide needs!  Your donation is completely tax deductible, and many employers will even match your donation.  We hope that you’ll consider the impact your financial gift can make on our school through this easy and convenient $20,000+ direct-give capital campaign.  Through the Everyone Counts Campaign, every single donation, no matter how large or small, is an opportunity to invest in the McAlpine community and your child’s future! Everyone Counts Campaign

This “fun run” is our second biggest fundraiser of the year.  Children gather pledges each Spring from family, friends, and neighbors to raise money as the students run, walk, skip or jump laps on the McAlpine fields.  We will be working with Boosterthon to make the McAlpine Mile a fun and exciting event for students and families alike, while also providing character education opportunities for our students as they prepare for the run.  This all-inclusive program promotes fun, fitness and community regardless of a child’s participation with pledges – every single McAlpine student receives a t-shirt, and prizes are available to all who participate!

McAlpine Mile

This fun night out for our students and their families has become a favorite event each year.  Local businesses sponsor the fun outdoor activities, and area restaurants provide food and give McAlpine a portion of their food sales.  Buying a wristband gives you access to inflatables, games and other fun activities like “Pie Your Teacher” (that’s right...you get to toss pies at your teachers!).  There is a DJ, raffle, silent auction, bake sale and plenty of other fun for the entire family!

Fall Family Fun Night

Hosted by local restaurants, these evenings offer food and fun for students.  On the designated night, the host restaurant donates a portion of the proceeds from purchased food directly to our school.  Last year, we raised around $3000 through this program.  You can support us in this fundraiser by bringing your family members to the designated restaurant that night and mentioning that you are a McAlpine family.  It’s that easy…and it’s a fun night out with other McAlpine families!

Easy Money

When you link your Harris Teeter VIC Card to McAlpine, our school earns money every time you buy Harris Teeter brand products.   Simply link your VIC Card to McAlpine’s school ID #1118 next time you check out at Harris Teeter, or CLICK HERE to link your card online. McAlpine typically earns well over $1000 each year from this program!

Make sure you tell grandparents, neighbors and other friends to link their VIC card to McAlpine (#1118).  And please remember that this program runs from August through May each year, so everyone MUST re-link their card each August!

You can also easily earn money for McAlpine every time you place an Amazon order!  Shopping through smile.amazon.com and choosing McAlpine PTO as your charity of choice gives you the same experience as Amazon shopping, but with the added benefit that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to McAlpine. AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support McAlpine each time you shop on Amazon, with no cost to you!

Box Tops for Education

We also ask that you clip Box Tops for Education off of hundreds of participating products that you buy.  McAlpine earns 10¢ for every Box Top we submit.  This quickly adds up to hundreds of dollars for our school to help pay for field trips, school improvements, books and technology! Tossing out a package without clipping the Box Top is like throwing away free money for McAlpine.  Send clipped Box Tops to school with your child (counted and labeled with your child’s grade in a baggie or envelope) and our Box Top Coordinator will submit them in the Fall and Spring.

Through these programs, we raise thousands of dollars each year that directly impact your family’s experience at McAlpine Elementary!
